Chris Campbell serves as the Chief Information Officer at DeVry University, where he leads the institution’s technology strategy with a clear focus on student success, digital innovation, and enterprise resilience. With deep experience across infrastructure, cybersecurity, data integration, and learning technologies, Chris blends operational excellence with a forward-thinking mindset—ensuring technology not only runs the university, but propels it.
Chris joined DeVry in 2018 and quickly elevated the role of IT from a back-office support function to a strategic enabler of university-wide and academic outcomes. He spearheaded the design and deployment of the university’s Digital CARE Engine—an award-winning, data-driven platform that enables real-time student engagement, predictive outreach, and proactive academic support. The initiative earned national recognition, including a 2022 CIO 100 Award and the 2023 Gartner Eye on Innovation Award, and has become a model for how technology can drive meaningful outcomes in higher education.
Under his leadership, DeVry has implemented a modern University Data Hub, a cloud-based analytics platform that fuels decision-making and measurable outcomes through machine learning, predictive analytics, and real-time insights. This foundation supports a range of institutional strategies—from academic advising to enrollment forecasting—rooted in data transparency and actionability. Chris has also led a series of transformative technology initiatives that prioritize both learner and university outcomes, including modernizing learning environments, upgrading cyber defenses, and advancing the reliability and scalability of DeVry’s hybrid and online modalities. He is known across the institution for being as effective in front of the Board of Trustees as he is triaging incidents with his front-line teams.
Prior to DeVry, Chris spent nearly a decade at Adtalem Global Education, where he led infrastructure and operations across a global portfolio of universities and training institutions. He has overseen multiple acquisitions, divestitures, and modernization efforts—building high-performing, distributed teams and integrating systems across North America, the Caribbean, and Brazil.
Chris is a vocal advocate for applied AI, analytics, and automation in higher ed, and often speaks on the evolving role of the CIO as a catalyst for institutional agility. His insights have been featured in CIO.com, CIO Talk Network, EdScoop, Logit.io, and Training magazine. At the core of his leadership philosophy is a belief that technology should serve people—especially those working to learn, teach, and support.
Beyond the university, Chris is an active contributor to the broader technology and social impact communities. He serves as a governing body member for Evanta, participates on industry advisory boards, and is a committed advocate for women in technology. He also supports youth development organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, helping to promote opportunity, inclusion, and early access to technology pathways.
A proud graduate of DeVry University himself, Chris holds a Bachelor’s in Technical Management. Whether he’s piloting AI capabilities, advising on digital risk, or partnering with academic leadership to improve student outcomes, he brings a blend of empathy, expertise, and execution to every challenge.
