Chief Data Officer [CIO 50 2025 winner] nbn Australia 

Sonia Boije is the Chief Data Officer at nbn Australia, where she oversees the implementation and operationalisation of enterprise-wide data and AI capabilities. A 2025 CIO50 Australia honouree, she is recognised for her leadership in delivering large-scale enterprise transformations. Previously, as Global Chief Data Officer at Ericsson, she built the company’s first global data function and governance framework from the ground up. Sonia holds global academic appointments as a Founding Business Fellow at the Aalto University School of Business and has served as a Guest Lecturer at Cambridge Judge Business School since 2020. As a prospective PhD candidate at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) within the DigiSAS Lab, her research focuses on the “Decision Product” as a novel architectural unit designed to move AI from pilot programs into trusted, high-value production. Sonia bridges industry execution and academic rigor to help organisations architect the “augmented enterprise”.
