Simon Chan

Simon Chan is an experienced cyber security practitioner focused on one of the defining questions facing financial institutions today: where AI can genuinely strengthen security operations, and where security, risk and regulatory obligations demand a more cautious approach. As Head of Cyber Security Operations at Berenberg, Simon is responsible for security operations supporting close to 2,000 staff across four regulated international offices and has led the operational security workstream for DORA. His remit spans security monitoring and detection, incident response, threat intelligence, vulnerability management, privileged access management, and security architecture and engineering.

With 25 years’ experience across financial services, sovereign wealth, systemically important market infrastructure and Big Four consulting, he has held roles at Berenberg, CLS Group, Norges Bank Investment Management, KPMG, PwC, and Shell. He is a CSO30 UK Winner 2025, and his team was recognised as Best Cyber Team 2025 at the Workplace Awards. Simon brings a practitioner’s perspective on the opportunities and risks of AI in security grounded in hands-on operations, operational resilience, and the realities of working within a highly regulated financial environment.
