Sean McCormack is Chief Information Officer of First Student, the largest provider of student transportation services in North America. Since joining in January 2022, Sean has led the company’s digital strategy and innovation across a fleet of 49,000 vehicles, 66,000 employees, and 4.8 million students transported daily. First Student is owned by EQT and operates the largest electric school bus fleet in North America.
Under Sean’s leadership, First Student launched the HALO connected-vehicle platform, the FirstAlt alternative transportation business, and AI-driven safety and routing capabilities that have contributed to a 28% reduction in accidents. The work has earned recognition including Time Magazine Best Inventions and Most Influential Companies, the Edison Award, the CIO 100, the Forrester Technology Strategy Award, two Stevie Awards for Product Innovation, and Fast Company’s Most Innovative Company and Next Big Thing in Tech, among others. Sean has been named to the Forbes CIO Next List, inducted into the CIO Hall of Fame, and honored with the CIO of the Year Impact Award.
Prior to First Student, Sean was VP of Engineering at W.W. Grainger, CTO at Harley-Davidson, Chief Architect at ManpowerGroup, and led an early enterprise Agile transformation at MillerCoors. He began his career with eight years in U.S. military intelligence. Sean holds an Executive MBA from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
