Kristin Darby

CIO State of Tennessee

Kristin Darby is a globally recognized Strategic Technology Executive and Board Director with more than 25 years of leadership across the public sector, healthcare, finance, operations, biotech, cybersecurity, and insurance industries. She is known for driving large scale digital transformation, modernizing complex technology environments, and guiding organizations through periods of rapid growth, integration, and innovation. Throughout her career, Ms. Darby has led technology, product, AI strategy, and operational initiatives for prominent national organizations, with deep expertise in enterprise transformation, cybersecurity, digital engagement, and data operations.

Ms. Darby currently serves as the Chief Information Officer for the State of Tennessee, where she oversees statewide technology strategy, AI adoption, innovation, and digital solutions that support mission-critical government services. She also serves as Co-Chair of the State of Tennessee AI Council, Co-Chair of the Tennessee Cybersecurity Advisory Council, and a member of the Tennessee Homeland Security Council, where she helps shape statewide strategy on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity preparedness, and emerging technology governance.

From 2022 to 2025, Ms. Darby was Chief Information Officer at HarmonyCares, leading the organization’s technology modernization to advance value-based care delivery across 15 states. Prior to that, she served as Enterprise Chief Information Officer at Envision Healthcare—the largest medical practice in the United States—where she directed enterprise technology strategy, cybersecurity, informatics, and digital innovation initiatives.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Darby held CIO roles at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) and Vanguard Health System, and spent 12 years in progressive leadership roles with Fresenius Medical Care, supporting medical operations across approximately 2,300 facilities nationwide.

Ms. Darby’s board experience includes service on the Boards of Directors for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, Addgene, and multiple nonprofit organizations. She is a Certified Director with NACD and Bank Director, a Certified Public Accountant, and a Certified Fraud Examiner. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Management Information Systems from the University of South Florida and an MBA from Henley Business School in Oxfordshire, England.

She is widely recognized for leadership excellence and innovation and was inducted into the CIO Hall of Fame in 2021 and the Global CIO 100 in 2025.
