John began his corporate career at Microsoft as a security administrator in 1992 and has held positions of increasing responsibility, including Manager of Investigations, Global Security Leader, VP & Chief Security Officer, culminating with his selection to build Discount Tire’s cyber security program as their inaugural Chief Information Security Officer. Prior to joining Microsoft, John served as a non-commissioned officer in the US Army as a member of the 1st Special Forces Group. John is a member of the Phoenix Evanta Governing Body and an active member of various security and non-profit organizations. He earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Northern Arizona University and his Master of Business Administration from the City University of Seattle; and is National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) certified. John Pontrelli retired in September 2024 after serving as Discount Tire’s Chief Information Security Officer since 2014. He has more than 30 years of information technology experience with a specialization in cyber security, risk management and IT resilience.
