
David Rice is a senior vice president of product and engineering at Cox Automotive, a global automotive services and software company whose vision is to transform the way the world buys, sells, owns and uses cars. He leads Inventory Solutions Product and Engineering, overseeing teams across the country and the UK who develop Cox Automotive’s inventory services, solutions and brands.
David’s teams are helping deliver integrated product solutions to power the buying, selling and servicing of vehicles for the automotive industry, offering solutions that empower customers to thrive. Their focus is on presenting a connected experience for clients across Cox Automotive’s inventory marketplaces, operations, capital, movement and data insights.
David joined vAuto in 2006 as his second startup before Cox Automotive acquired it in 2010. He was instrumental in developing vAuto’s industry-leading Live Market Inventory Management product and expanding the brand’s Austin-based development team from 0 to over 200.
After acquisition, David spent several years helping product and engineering teams from other acquired companies transition into Cox Automotive’s values, practices and goals. David then helped develop the strategy and teams that are at the center of Cox Automotive’s composable future to deliver enterprise product value. Today, David leads a team of more than 1,000 with a company-wide focus through many other inventory products across Cox Automotive.
David earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Texas at Austin. In 2015 David was named to Auto Remarketing’s Remarketing & Used-Car Industry’s 40 Under 40 list. Under David’s leadership, the Austin American Statesman named the Cox Automotive Austin office one of their Top Workplaces in 2015 – 2017, and again in 2020.
