
Andrea S. Ballinger is a seasoned executive IT leader and strategist with over 25 years of experience in higher education. She began her career in the private sector, focusing on transformative work in mergers and acquisitions. Throughout her career, she has held various senior roles, leading functional and IT operations, organizational and digital transformation, and strategic initiatives across multiple institutions.
Andrea served as the Vice Provost and Chief Information Officer at Oregon State University (OSU). In this role, she was responsible for advancing the university’s strategic mission by providing effective and efficient enterprise IT services. Under her leadership, OSU Information and Technology (UIT) guided policy development and governed distributed IT resources across academic, extension, research, and administrative units. UIT fostered a trusted, collaborative, and community-driven IT environment through governance and advisory groups, supporting OSU’s mission and values.
Andrea is currently, serving as CIO at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy New York. She is leading RPI’s enterprise technology strategy and overseeing IT services that support teaching, research, and administrative operations. She is partnering with campus leadership to advance digital transformation, strengthen technology governance, and enhance the student, faculty, and staff experience through innovative and reliable technology solutions.
Andrea is passionate about reimagining the student experience, building diverse and high-performing IT teams, leveraging analytics for decision-making, and achieving operational excellence. She holds an undergraduate degree in Finance and an MBA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
